For eighty years, the world of Avandan – a world of elves and magic, of swords and sorcery – has been reshaped by humanity’s invention of the steam engine. New technological marvels arise every day to challenge the powers of the old world. None is more spectacular than the Ikarus – the world’s first lighter than air flying machine. And no passenger aboard the Ikarus is more astounding than Rayburn Cog: A half-orc with a brilliant mind, a checkered past, and an unimaginable future.

When the Ikarus is shot down by unknown assailants and crashes, the estimable Mr. Cog is the only survivor. Entrusted with nothing but the vaguest of clues by a dying gnome, Mr. Cog sets forth into a world that hates him for the color of his skin with nothing but his wits, his revolver, and the assistance of a bumbling priestess named Virginia, who claims that he is the inheritor of an ancient prophecy.

Ahead of Mr. Cog lies a journey across the breadth of Avandan – a journey which will see him dueling with bandits, bargaining with ghostly apparitions, and crossing wits with everyone from low down scoundrels to the wealthiest men in the world. Along the way, he shall bed a truly remarkable number of women – often without the knowledge of their husbands or fathers! - and discover the truth behind the mysteries that surround him.
